The Acura RL was the luxury automaker’s second flagship car, following the highly successful Acura Legend. The RL is a full-size luxury sedan which Honda’s luxury division started producing in 1995. The acronym RL means “Refined Luxury”. Acura’s new flagship sedan was a rebadged version of the Honda Legend, equipped with Acura’s latest luxury features. Production of the Acura RL spanned two generations, with production ending after the 2012 model year.
With the debut of the Acura RL for the 1996 model year, it featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a peak output of 210 hp and 224 pound-feet of torque. It came standard as front-wheel drive and with a four-speed automatic transmission. For the RL’s last iteration, the 2012 Acura RL, it was equipped with a 3.7-liter V6 that produces 300 hp and 271 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission became standard, and so was all-wheel drive.

As Acura’s flagship car for 17 years, the Acura RL included the company’s top-tier premium features. For the 2012 Acura RL, standard inclusions were a power moonroof, front fog lights, acoustic glass windshield, Xenon HID headlights, a 10-speaker Bose audio system with surround sound, heated leather power front seats with power lumbar, front and rear carpet floor mats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED backlit gauges with progressive illumination, dual front and rear cup holders, power rear sunshade, and dual-zone dual-mode automatic air-conditioning with rear heater vents.

For a luxury sedan, the RL had solid fuel economy. The 2012 Acura RL was rated at 24 mpg highway, 17 mpg city, and 20 mpg combined.
