Select The Year Of Your Vehicle Below
As the first Acura model to be manufactured in the United States, the Acura CL was launched for the 1997 model year. This was during the massive rise of the Honda Civic, which had been selling upwards of 250,000 units per year in the US. It was no surprise then that the Acura CL would be built on the same plant that made the Civic in East Liberty, Ohio. The Acura CL was also based on another highly successful car, the Honda Accord.
Production of the Acura CL spanned two generations from 1996 to 2003. It was produced as a coupe and debuted with a 2.2-liter inline-four engine that produced 145 hp and 147 pound-feet of torque. It came with independent double-wishbone front and rear suspensions, ventilated front disc brakes and solid rear disc brakes, a separate parking brake caliper, and an Acura-designed anti-lock braking system (ABS) with four wheel-speed sensors and an electronic/hydraulic control unit. For the 2003 model year, the Acura CL featured a stronger 225-hp, 3.2-liter V6 engine.
Acura CL Standard Interior Features
Inside the 1997 Acura CL, a power driver’s seat, leather seat trim, power windows, and cruise control were standard. For the 2003 Acura CL, a Bose premium sound system with six speakers, remote keyless power door locks, a power glass moonroof, and heated mirrors also became regular inclusions.
What Does Type S Mean on the Acura CL?
The Type S badge on Acura models denotes high-performance with a dynamic driving experience by improving power, handling, and braking performance. In 2002, Honda developed a performance package for the CL Type S, which was claimed to reach as much as 369 hp and 302 pound-feet of torque.
